Breeze of Paradise: Subatan, a lesser-known gift of nature

TEHRAN – In every corner of Iran, you can find places with paradisiacal sceneries and untainted nature; which charms each visitor.

Due to the green nature of northern Iran, this part of the country houses several such dream-like places.

Subatan country is one of these places. It is located near Talesh city, in Northwestern Guilan Province.

There is no electric power or water pipes in Subatan and the most important characteristic of this genuine paradise is that there is no network coverage or mobile data connection there!

------------------- Where is Subatan?

The country is located in northwestern Talesh city, Guilan Province. It is accessible from Neor Lake in Ardabil as well.

Mid-spring and summer are the best times to visit Subatan. However, early autumn is a great season as well!

Because of its cold weather, there are few permenant residents in the village during winter time. Most of the villagers, who are mostly farmers and shepherds, migrate to the country during spring and summer.

----------------- How to get there?

There are several ways to reach Subatan, two of which are more renowned: the first way is to reach the place from Talesh city. However you will need an off-road car for a safe mountain driving or you can hire some patrols, which take passengers to the place.

Subatan is located 17 km from the Neor Lake and it can also be reached on foot from there.

------------------- What are the main sight-seeing attractions of the place?

The beautiful landscapes of Subatan and the picturesque sceneries on the way to the place are the main tourist attractions for people who venture into this region.

Walking on green pastures, breathing fresh air, and enjoying water in spring are some of the main highlights and attractions of Subatan.

The Batman Bolaq Spring, Ganjkhaneh Cave, the Salsal spring, Varzan waterfall and horse field are also amongst the must-see places of the region.

---------------------- The choice is yours: Talesh or Neor?

Talesh: It is a wonderful mountainous area, and its virgin and intact nature is a charming place for those who love nature.

Talesh is situated 140 km northwest of Rasht, on the southwest coast of the Caspian Sea. Talesh town, covering an area of 2373 square kilometers, is ¼ of surface area of Guilan.

Neor Lake: It is located 48 km southeast of the city of Ardabil 2,700 m. above sea level.

With an area of more than 220 hectares, it is composed of a smaller and a larger basin, which gets connected during the rainy season forming a single lake. The Maximum depth of this lake reaches 5.5 m. with the average of 3 m. depth.

Walking from Neor Lake to Subatan village is one of the best choices for you to see a lake, forest, and a beautiful village on the same trip. You can also enjoy different weather (sunny, rainy, foggy, etc.) during the same day.

Neor Lake is habitat to the rainbow trout and birds such as; ruddy shelduck and migrant swallows. Sports, fishing and other recreational activities are common and popular amongst visitors at this lake.
